Predicting Flicker Thresholds for Video Display Terminals
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper describes an analytical method for predicting whether a video display terminal will appear to flicker given the screen phosphor persistence, refresh frequencies, and other environmental factors such as ambient light level, the distance between the viewer and the display, etc. From the method, one can predict the maximum screen luminance and the minimum refresh frequency that will generate a flicker-free display for a theoretical standard observer. These predictions are tested across a wide range of refresh frequencies, screen luminances, screen phosphors, and individual users.

Immediate Effects of Different Screen Sizes on Visual Fatigue in Video Display Terminal Users
Background: Computer usage has rapidly grown. This is because it helps to resolve problems, i.e., encountered in daily life by individuals. Various monitor screens that have been developed affect the userchr('39')s eyes. Screen size is one of the relevant impacts. Thus, this study compared the immediate effects of two computer screen sizes on visual fatigue in Video Display Terminal (VDT) users...
متن کاملThe study of Relationship between Mental Work Load and Sleep Quality in Video Display Terminals Users
Background & objectives: One of the factors affecting the performance of video display terminal users is their mental work load. Since low sleep quality causes fault and decreased accuracy in work, this study aimed to evaluate the relationship between mental work load and sleep quality in video display terminals users. Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was performed on 191 video d...
متن کاملMulti-point flicker recognition apparatus and its application for video display terminal work.
The apparatus to measure multi-point critical flicker fusion frequency (MCFF) was devised for more precise determination of the critical flicker fusion frequency (CFF). Using this apparatus, the variations in flicker value after the work load of the television (TV) game, the Kraepelin using the video display terminal (VDT-Kraepelin) and the paper-Kraepelin were examined in order to test its pra...
متن کاملFlicker distorts visual space constancy.
Effects of flicker on space perception were measured by displacing a flickering target during saccadic eye movements. A small target was flickered at 33, 66, 130 or 260 Hz. Using a 2-interval forced-choice design, sensitivity to the displacement was about twice as great when the target was moved in the direction opposite the eye movement as when it was moved in the same direction. This would be...
متن کاملA novel stereoscopic display technique with improved spatial and temporal properties
Common stereoscopic 3D (S3D) displays utilize either spatial or temporal interlacing to send different images to each eye. Temporal interlacing sends content to the left and right eyes alternatingly in time, and is prone to artifacts such as flicker, unsmooth motion, and depth distortion. Spatial interlacing sends even pixel rows to one eye and odd rows to the other eye, and has a lower effecti...
